Private Henry McMaster

 

This North Irish Horseman was probably the Henry McMaster born on 15 May 1896 at Killyless, Ballymena, County Antrim, the eighth of eleven children of farmer (later farm labourer) Robert McMaster and his wife Mary Ann (née Stewart). By the time of the 1911 Census he was living at Killyless with his parents and three of his nine surviving siblings and working as a farm labourer.

McMaster enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 3 and 11 October 1918 (Corps of Hussars No.72187). He trained at the regiment's Antrim reserve camp until demobilised in 1919.
